Mildred “Babe” Didrikson-Zaharias
Another interesting fact…There were limited options for female golfers in the 1940s, so Babe Didrickson-Zaharias joined with golfer Patty Berg to co-found the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) in 1949. Didrikson was the president starting in 1950 and held the position for the rest of her life. In 1950 the Associated Press voted Babe Didrikson Woman Athlete of the Half-Century.
