Another interesting fact…According to Vassar College, her alma mater, as an avid supporter of New York Governor Samuel J. Tilden, the 1876 Democratic presidential candidate, Harriot organized a Democratic Club. “This was the first time,” she later claimed, “politics had crossed the sacred threshold of this higher institution of learning”.
