55 days before the 100th Anniversary of the Women’s Right to Vote

Inspirational Woman for Today is:

Bernice Sandler

Another interesting fact…Known as the “Godmother of Title IX”, Bernice Sandler was the person who found a small opening in discrimination laws to pry open for expanding women’s rights. She noticed a footnote in a US Commission on Civil Rights report on a presidential executive order barring federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion and national origin. The footnote linked to a 1968 amendment to Executive Order 11246 from President Lyndon Johnson that expanded discrimination on the basis of sex. Since most universities had federal contracts, she reasoned that the order applied to them. (Courtesy npr.org)
